GRAND COTEAU- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Elsie Caillouet on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 3:15 p.m. in the St. Charles Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. Fr. Melancon will celebrate the Mass. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.; with the rosary to be recited at 110:00 a.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Grand Coteau. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Charles Cemetery.
Elsie Caillouet, a beloved school teacher and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on February 13, 1928, in Bristol, Louisiana, Elsie dedicated over 40 years of her life to educating young minds, having taught at Bristol Elementary, Cankton Elementary, and St. Ignatius Elementary. Her unwavering commitment to her students and her passion for teaching left an indelible mark on the lives of many, shaping the future with kindness and encouragement.
Beyond her professional life, Elsie possessed a deep love for animals, particularly birds. She found great joy in feeding and observing them from her patio, where she would spend hours watching their graceful movements and listening to their songs. This simple pleasure reflected her appreciation for the beauty of nature and the small joys in life.
Elsie is survived by her son, Dirk Caillouet of Sunset.
Elsie is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Caillouet; parents, Jules and Ida Sibille; and brother, Leroy Sibille.
Elsie's legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable journey. She is remembered not only for her dedication to education but also for her compassion, warmth, and love for life. Her spirit, imbued with the love she shared with her students and family, will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
