Eli Higdon

Port Barre- A Funeral Service for Eli Wilson Higdon, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will conduct the service. Readers will be Lisa Higdon, Victoria Higdon and Allison Higdon. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre.

Mr. Higdon, age 89, a resident of Port Barre, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at Opelousas General Health System. Mr. Higdon served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Higdon enjoyed being outdoors whether it be fishing, hunting, tending to his lawn or caring for his garden. He also enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Kay Higdon St. Cyr and husband, Robert of Port Barre; sons, Ricky Higdon and companion, Yvonne of Palmetto, Cary Higdon and wife, Stephanie of Opelousas, Dwayne Higdon and wife, Rachelle of Lafayette and Carroll Higdon and wife, Lisa of Orlando, FL; 12 grandchildren, Seth St. Cyr and fiancé, Charley Doyle, Alex St. Cyr and wife, Meghan, Jason St. Cyr, Chandler, Emily, Nicholas, Victoria, Grant, Allison and Jacob Higdon, Caleb Higdon and wife, Sarah, and Morgan Higdon Clawson and husband, Alex; 7 great-grandchildren, Rylee, Zander, Raylan, Sawyer, AshLynn, Slade and Londyn.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mercy Bellard Higdon; parents, Claude Higdon, Sr. and Aline Richard Higdon; brothers, Claude Higdon, Jr., Loyd Higdon and Albert Higdon; sisters, Evelyn Higdon Blackburn, Ellen Higdon and Aline Higdon Clardy.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre. A Rosary Service will be prayed by Deacon Mitch Hebert at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Caleb, Nicholas and Grant Higdon, and Seth, Alex and Jason St. Cyr.
