Dorris Rushing, born September 3, 1939, in Denham Springs, LA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at his residence in Port Barre, LA, surrounded by his loving family.
Early in adulthood, Dorris answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States military as a Seaman. From December of 1961 until April of 1966, he was stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Facility in Washington, DC. His commitment to duty and his sense of responsibility left a lasting impression on all who served alongside him. While his military service was a significant chapter, those who knew Dorris remember him most for his unwavering loyalty to family and friends, and his quiet strength in times both good and challenging.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ella Glascock Rushing, sons, Brad Simpson Rushing and wife Heather of Connecticut, and Greg Rushing of Gonzales; brothers, Gay Rushing of Florida and Donald Rushing of Walker, LA; grandchildren, Scarlette Allemond, Wesley Rushing, Owen Rushing, Gaelan Rushing, Haley Rushing, Alexis and Danielle Rushing; 1 great-grandchild, Ella Reese Allemond.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jake Rushing and Leola Harris Rushing; and his sister, Olan Dale Ervin.
He will be remembered and cherished for the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy defined by honorable service, deep-rooted values, and the love he shared with those closest to him.
