With trust in God, we announce the passing of Dorothy “Dot” Louise Goyette Hatch on May 30, 2026. Dorothy was born on November 8, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. It was there that she met and married her high school sweetheart, Bill. Before his death twenty years ago, she and Bill celebrated fifty-six years of marriage.
Dot was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her faith and Catholic values guided her life. Her gift to her eight children was this faith as exemplified in Philippians Chapter 4:
”Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you.”
She was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church Parish including Rosary Group and Altar Society.
Dorothy will be remembered by many patrons as a long-time employee of the Opelousas Eunice Public Library. After serving the public for twenty-two years, she and Bill retired. Her service to others continued through her volunteer work at Opelousas General Hospital for over two decades.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and her son in law, Hurst Hall, Jr.
She is survived by her children, Maureen Stockwell (Lonnie) of Pensacola Beach, Florida; Bill (Aleyce) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Joellyn Grass of Pensacola Beach, Florida; Laurie Going (Charles) of Opelousas, Louisiana; Julie Hall of Roswell, Georgia; Suzanne Hargroder (Raymond) of Lafayette, Louisiana; Janine Hopper (Jamey) of Pensacola Beach, Florida; and Barbara Steiner (Raymond) of Lake Charles, Louisiana. She also leaves behind eighteen grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren. She and Bill leave a lasting legacy in the generations of family their love inspired. They are now reunited and rejoicing in Heaven.
The family would like to extend their gratitude for the wonderful care given to their mother in her later years by the staff of Our Lady of Prompt Succor and the Marianite Sisters. Also, they would like to thank Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care and the physicians and staff of Opelousas General Hospital who gave her peace and comfort in the last days of her life.
Words of Comfort to the family may be expressed at www.sibillefuneralhomes.com. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.
