It is with deep sadness that the family of Daniel Frank Hrachovy (Rock) announces his peaceful passing on February 13, 2026, at the age of 101. He was at his home in Port Barre surrounded by loved ones.
Born on January 1, 1925, he was son of (the late) Cyrill Hrachovy and Frances Janak Hrachovy, both of Ellinger, TX. After high school, Daniel served proudly and honorably in the U.S. Navy as Radioman 2ND class and was assigned to three different ammunition ships in both the North and South Pacific. In World War II, he fought in the battle of Leyte Gulf off the coast of the Philippines.
After completing his military service, Daniel attended Texas A & M University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering. He worked for companies such as Halliburton and Pan Am until he met the love of his life, (the late) Shirley Duplechain Hrachovy. He then made Port Barre his home and opened the D&D Food Market, where he operated it for 20 years. Daniel is survived by his four children, David Hrachovy, Mark Hrachovy, Yvette Berard and Stephanie Roberts, who affectionately called him “Dee.” He is also survived by Marceline Cortez Hrachovy, who was like a daughter to him, and his sons-in-law, Douglas Anderson and (the late) Dr. Darryl J. Roberts.
Daniel has three grandchildren who will miss him dearly: Nichole Hatten (and husband Aaron Hatten), Jonathan Hrachovy, and Benjamin Roberts. His great grandchildren are Brandt Hatten, Evan Hatten, and Adelyn Hatten; great-great grandchildren are Beckham and Sutton Hatten. Daniel’s sister, Blanche Pater, a resident of Richmond, TX, also survives him. He is predeceased by his other siblings, Evelyn Miller, Adelle Linke, C.J. Hrachovy, and Bennie Hrachovy.
Daniel had a full life. After retirement from the U.S. Minerals Management Service as Petroleum Engineer, he enjoyed many hours of golf with friends at the Indian Hills Country Club. For many years he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, where he often put his unique barbecue skills to work for charitable causes; he also had been a member of the Lions Club and American Legion. Daniel was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre, where he served as a lector and usher for many years.
In his later years, Daniel enjoyed trying his luck at the Evangeline Downs casino and also enjoyed listening to Polka music. He loved watching his alma mater play football and enjoyed retelling an “Aggie joke” whenever he heard a good one. Known for his resilience and perseverance, Daniel was likely the oldest man in the area who insisted on cutting his own grass, even up to the age of 96. At 100 he could still be seen by residents of the town on his motorized scooter, running errands at the grocery store or post office.
The family would like to bestow a very special thank you to Mary Aggison, who provided excellent care for him these last four years, especially these past few months. Thank you also to Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, to offer a donation in Daniel’s memory to Heart of the Nation Catholic Church at https://www.heartofthenation.org.
Words of Comfort to the family may be expressed at www.sibillefuneralhomes.com. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre.
