Clemmie Fontenot

Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for, Mrs. Clemmie Fontenot, on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 12:00 noon in the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Mrs. Clemmie, age 80, a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Clemmie worked hard her whole life as a cosmetologist, a baker and more importantly as an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known throughout Opelousas for her friendly disposition, giving personality and willingness to help all in need. Mrs. Clemmie loved dancing with her husband Joe; and together they won numerous Jitterbug contests. Anyone who knew her has truly tasted the finest of Southern cuisine. She passed on her love for cooking to her daughter, Susan, who went on to win numerous cooking contests. She had a great influence on her three grandsons who chose to pursue a career in cooking. Damian David Tate, Joseph Derrick Fontenot and Lewis Harley Fontenot are now known as renowned chefs. She had a strong devout faith in God and was always willing to lend a helping hand at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Although she was raised a country girl at heart, Mrs. Clemmie visited many places around the world such as, the Virgin Islands, Nassau in the Bahamas, the Caribbean and Mexico. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Levy Fontenot II; daughters, Geralyn Faith Fontenot Soileau and fiancé, Jimmie W. Council, and Susan Marie Bergeaux and husband, Bryant; six grandchildren, Damian David Tate, Jennifer Leigh Soileau Wade, Janet Marie Sullivan, Joseph Derrick Fontenot and wife, Erin, Michael Jordan Fontenot, Lewis Harley Fontenot and wife, Madeline, Kayla Bergeaux, and Broc Bergeaux; and five great-grandchildren, Naomi F. Sheumaker, Nicholas C. Sheumaker II, Victoria M. Brown, Hendrix D. Fontenot and Forest Fontenot.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Joseph Levy Fontenot; and her parents, Otis Lalonde and Evelina Mendoza Lalonde.

The family requests visitation be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Jerome Collins. The funeral home will reopen on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
