OPELOUSAS– A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Carolyn Marie Bertinot FaKouri on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Landry Catholic Church. Fr. Neil Pettit will celebrate Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, Louisiana.
Carolyn, age 84, a lifelong resident of Opelousas, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 24, 2021.
A 2-year District Championship Girl’s Basketball team member, Carolyn graduated from AIC (OC) in ‘54. She attended college at McNeese, SLI (UL), and returned to USL (UL) in the 80’s. She joined her family business, Clover Farm Creamery, along with her husband, Nick; working in all aspects of the business when needed, including managing the dairy farm. A member of the Opelousas Garden Club, Carolyn served as President and Chairman of the annual Bal Masque Mardi Gras Ball for many years, and was a frequent award winner of the Floral Design Competition at the Yambilee Festival. In addition, she spearheaded the “Make Opelousas Beautiful” project, overseeing the upgrade of the Blue Star Memorial plaque and the landscaping and planting of dozens of trees, that are still enjoyed today when one enters the city of Opelousas. In the 80’s, Carolyn enjoyed much success with her interior decorating and silk floral design company, Carofak Designs, beautifying homes, business offices, and weddings. She joined Century 21 Real Estate, winning awards in the Million Dollar Club, dedicating the rest of her career life to proudly help families find their ideal home for over 35 years. In addition to her career, Carolyn found fulfillment in helping others through the church and service organizations like The Elks.
There was nothing stronger than Carolyn’s unwavering faith and the love of her family. Throughout her life, Carolyn was a generous and adventurous woman, never meeting a stranger and always willing to go above and beyond for her family and friends. Her home was always open, as she loved to gather people together for a good meal and a spirited game of dominoes. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
