A Mass of Christian Burial for C. Darryl Wagley, 81, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park. Father James Brady will celebrate the Mass. Readers will be his three oldest granddaughters. Gift bearers will be his grandchildren.

Mr. Wagley, a long time resident of Opelousas, passed away at Lafayette General Medical Center on May 22, 2017 surrounded by his large and loving family in prayer.

He was born in Opelousas, Louisiana on January 10, 1936. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Ville Platte, Louisiana. He served his country proudly in the Medical Corp of the U. S. Army. After his military service, he continued his education and earned his BA and MBA from Northwood University.

His professional career included serving as Administrator/CEO of Opelousas General Hospital, Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital, Point Coupee General Hospital, St. Martin Hospital and American Legion Hospital. He also opened Acadia/St. Landry Hospital in Church Point and served as the first Administrator there.

Throughout his life, Mr. Wagley was committed to serving his community and fellow man. This service was shown through his leadership on the State of Louisiana Rural Healthcare Authority, Louisiana State Advisory Board on Cardio-Pulmonary Care, Lafayette Catholic Service Center Board, LSUE Community Advisory Board, LSUE Foundation Board, LSUE Housing Foundation Board, President of the Jaycees, St. Landry Airport Authority, Opelousas-St. Landry Chamber of Commerce Board, New Life Center Advisory Board, Lighthouse Mission Board, Parks and Recreation Commission, Opelousas Fire and Police Civil Service Board and as Special Projects Coordinator for the City of Opelousas. For his service, he was recognized as St. Landry Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, SERTOMA Service to Mankind Award and OCHS Man of the Year among his many other recognitions.

His memory will be treasured by his loving wife of 61 years, Sarah Gardiner Wagley; his sons, Ken and wife, Melanie, Randy, Arty and his daughter, Sarah and her husband Barry; his 16 grandchildren John Wagley, Kristi Wagley Richard and husband Daniel, Amy Wagley Brown and husband Chris, Shari Branton, Eric Wagley, Andrew Wagley and wife Brittany, Lindsey Wagley and fiance' Dustin Domingue, Amanda Wagley Robin and husband Chad, Madison Branton Wimberley and husband Alex, Victoria Wagley Taullie and husband Jude , Bailey Branton Soileau and husband Matt, Ashleigh Wagley, Brooke Wagley, Evan Wagley, Garrett Wagley and Katie Wagley, and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his only sister, Gwen Bordelon and her husband, Charles and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wagley was preceded in death by his father, Clifford "PawPaw" Wagley and his mother, Amy Collins "MawMaw" Wagley.

To celebrate his life, visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas with a Rosary Service being held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, May 25, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, and his son-in-law, Barry Branton. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Bordelon, Oscar Reed Jr, and Martin McLendon.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the loving ICU doctors and nursing staff at Lafayette General Medical Center.
