Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Betty Thibodeaux Cormier on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Fr. Gregory Simien will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Mrs. Betty, a resident of Opelousas, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the age of 76, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Betty enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening; she loved growing Gerbera daisies, fruits, and vegetables. She also enjoyed listening to a good tune and dancing.

Mrs. Betty is survived by her son, Tony Cormier and wife, Margaret of Princeton, LA; daughters, Marcia Wyble and husband, Brent of Opelousas, Carrie Soileau and husband, Gerald of Port Barre, and Vina Marie Elkins and husband, Ross of Sunset; sister, Juanita Latiolais of Church Point; 10 grandchildren, Ethan Joseph Cormier, Aaron Michael Cormier, Daniel Mychal Aragon, Joseph Lee Soileau , Jordan Michael Soileau, Connor Michelle Meche, Chelsey Bihm, Cameron Wyble, Hunter Wyble and Brittany Elkins; 8 great-grandchildren, Everleigh Wyble, Asher Michael Cormier, Ayden Lee Cormier, Collins Elizabeth Ortego, Wells Matthew Meche, Evie Lane Soileau, Andie Reese Leger, Violet Olivia Aragon and Daniel Mychal Aragon, Jr.

Mrs. Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Joseph “Lee” Cormier; parents, Dennis Thibodeaux and Carie Darbonne Thibodeaux; brothers, Ewell Thibodeaux, Rodney Thibodeaux and John Carrol Thibodeaux; sisters, Judy Daigle, Beverly LeJeune, Marie Trahan and Nelma Duplechain.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. by Deacon Ulysse Joubert. Visitation will resume on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ethan Cormier, Aaron Cormier, Cameron Wyble, Hunter Wyble, Joseph Soileau, Jordan Soileau and Brent Wyble.
