July 7, 1926 — June 1, 2017

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for, Mr. Arthur "Manny" Veltin, Jr., at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. The Very Monsignor Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of committal will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Opelousas, Arthur E. Veltin, Jr. better known as Manny, passed away at the age of 90 at Opelousas General Hospital on June 1, 2017.

Manny served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII as a anti aircraft armored recon transport officer with rifle sharpshooter qualifications. Manny was honorably discharged in November of 1946 and received a Bronze Star for Valor.

Manny knew from an early age that he would become an architect. He worked for many years with his partner Clayton D'avy of D'avy and Veltin Architecture before branching out with his own firm, Arthur E. Veltin, Jr. LTD., AIA, where he continued to design many residential and commercial buildings with unique style and architectural flair.

During his professional life he had the honor to serve as President of the American Institute of Architect, a member of the VFW and a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge #1048 of Opelousas.

On the weekend he loved entertaining his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his greatest passion, cooking. He was always ready for a "Whip". His favorite hobbies were building and flying his remote controlled airplanes, and building beautiful models of ships and boats from scratch.

He is survived by his daughters, Tobi V. Doherty and husband, Pat of Sunset, Julie V. Bernard and husband, Ronald S. of Lafayette; 6 grandchildren, Wendy Cuevas and husband, Master Serg. Tony of Whiteman Airforce Base, Kent Vincent of Baton Rouge, Mandi Veltin of Lafayette, Jessica Ashford and husband, Stephen of Denim Springs, Dorothy Bernard of Lafayette, and Stephen Bernard of Lafayette; and 4 great-grandchildren, Griffin Ashford, Ellie Grace Ashford, Gabby Cuevas, and Leo Cuevas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Toby Veltin and Julia Boagni Veltin Smith; step-father, Kenneth Smith; first wife, Elizabeth Lafleur Veltin; second wife of 30 years, Lucille B. Veltin; son, Charles Keith Veltin; sister, Margarie Gaustad and husband, Col.
