Opelousas- A Funeral Service will be held for Pastor Roy E. Baker at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Roy age 78, a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019, at his home.
Roy was a talented vocalist who was the lead singer for the Southern Plainsmen Quartet. He played the guitar, saxophone and the harmonica. He retired as a pastor. Roy served as a music director for Northside Baptist Church of Pineville, LA., pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, and music director of Calvary after his retirement. Roy was a kind servant of God who went out his way to help others.
He is survived by wife, Myra Hazlewood Baker of Opelousas; son, David Baker (Lara) of San Ramone, California; daughters, Kim Baker of Bedford, Texas, Kathy Brandon of Mesquite, Texas, Natalie Calloway of Baton Rouge, and Carrie Richard of Opelousas, grandchildren, William Wesley Tomlinson, Callie Calloway, Hailey Baker, Conner Calloway, Jonathan Weeks, Mason Brandon, Grayson Brandon, and Tara Baker. He will be also missed by his golden lab Mandy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin L. “Roy” Baker and Marjorie Amelia Picket Baker, brother, William “Bill” E. Baker.
Visitation is from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020, and will resume of Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Weeks, William Wesley Tomlinson, Conner Calloway, Mason Brandon, Grayson Brandon, and Mike Fitzgerald.
