Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for, Velma Ortego, on Monday, January 28, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Fr. Greg Simien will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.

Velma, age 95, a resident of Lafayette, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the Carpenter House in Lafayette. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Warren Ortego and wife, Judy of Houma, Ricky Ortego of Jackson, LA., and Tracey Ortego and wife, Annette of Opelousas, daughters, Cynthia Thomasee of Houma, Denise Ingram and husband Allen of Lafayette, and sister, Anna Lee Beadle of Opelousas, grandchildren, Michael Ortego, Keith Ortego, Jeanenne Dubon, Ursula Thomasee, Monica Ingram Terrell, Allison Celment, Jennifer Kennedy, Gabe Ortego, Ben Ortego, and Jill Ortego.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Ortego, parents, Jno B. Doucet and Elma Fusilier Doucet, daughter, Norma Sharp, brother, J.B. Doucet, Jr.

The family requests visitation be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 12:00 p.m.
