Fr. George Hampshire

Opelousas- Funeral services for Fr. George Hampshire, age 77, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2010, with a Mass of Christian burial in the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Prairie Ronde.
Fr. Pete Smith and Bishop Bruce MacPherson will officiate the mass.
Fr. George was a residence of Ville Platte. He died on Monday, January 25, 2010, at his residence. He was a graduate of Devary College and Episcopal Seminary. For thirty plus years, he served as an Episcopal Priest. His service area was the Episcopal Diocese of Western Louisiana. He retired seven years ago from the Priesthood. He was a residence of Louisiana for nineteen years. Fr. George leaves behind to mourn his long time friend, Joe Guidroz, Jr. of Ville Platte.
He enjoyed painting and fishing. He was a very loving and loyal friend and gave of himself to anyone who was in need of help.
Survivors include his son, John Jay Hampshire of Tennessee; his two daughters: Amy Lynn Hampshire Price of Tennessee; and Stephanie Hughes of North Carolina; and six grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents: Archibald Hampshire and Mabel Latshaw Hampshire; his two brothers: Kay Hampshire and Keith Hampshire.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany of Opelousas on Friday, January 29, 2010, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service.
